Via: @GeneralAntilles

Editor: Andrew Olmsted

The tradition of a community-run coding competition for Maemo and Meego devices continues this year. Beginning Monday 11th June, and running for 3 months, new applications for Maemo and MeeGo Harmattan devices (and significant updates to existing ones) will be eligible to enter in this years competition. Whether you are an experienced developer or a beginner on your very first application, we have a category that suits you and your application!

Nokia has generously donated 14 N950s and 11 N9s that we will assign to the winners and runner ups across the various categories. There will also be a community bounty made up of individual donations which will also be shared out amongst the best placed entries. Entry is free, so all interested developers of all skill levels are encouraged to participate.

FotoShare N9

"AlphaX2" has released a photo sharing application with a twist: the option share your photos with various services right when the picture is taken without additional action from the user. This is the bunch of features: Upload to Dropbox; Upload on a server; use ftp, sftp or scp for uploading; startup FotoShareN9 daemon on boot; Wifi only upload; optional video upload; selectable notification types; instant or interval upload with selectable times; logfile support;and last but not least: a nice GUI In your editor's opinion, the automatic share feature is great for backing up content to a private remote server - but you would have to be pretty adventurous to send them to a public site pretty much sight unseen.

Seara - a Siri clone for Maemo 5

Editor: Andrew Olmsted

"taixzo" has started working on a project to provide a Siri-like AI app for Harmattan. The framework is in place for the AI to be extended, but currently the app only participates in conversation and doesn't perform any system tasks. I couldn't find one, so I decided to make my own. Saera can do some tasks (such as setting alarms etc) and make some conversation, although not very well (might someone be interested in helping with the A.I.?) Saera uses Pocketsphinx for voice recognition, eSpeak to talk and PyGTK for the GUI. There is a zip to download later on in the thread, but the application itself seems to be mostly proof-of-concept at the moment.
