Hildon Foundation Board of Directors election announced - nomination period beings June 1st

Via: @GeneralAntilles

Editor: Ryan Abel

Due to lack of nominees, the election process for the Hildon Foundation Board of Directors has been restarted. Nominations opened Saturday June 1st: The nomination period for said BoD elections will start on the June 1st 0:00UTC and will end on June 14th 23:59UTC, the contemplation period runs from June 15th

The Hildon Foundation has gotten a bad image over the first few months of its existence. The resignation of all of the elected directors and its treasurer, its unresponsiveness to critical issues (like the banking/PayPal problems), the missteps in its secret communications with Jolla, and the distractions from its core responsibility of keeping maemo.org services running have all contributed to the negative perception many community members seem to have of it.

Your editor believes the Hildon Foundation is a very important piece in facilitating the continued smooth operation of maemo.org. It's important that the perception of the Hildon Foundation be turned around, and for that, we need quality candidates. Currently only Craig Woodward and your editor have nominated, but we really need at least 8 candidates for this election. On behalf of this publication, I'd like to strongly encourage (more like beg) any of those eligible who still have an interest in helping to keep maemo.org going, and a little free time, to consider nominating themselves. Interested nominees with karma of 100 or more can submit their nomination to the maemo-community mailing list. You have until June 14th at 23:59 UTC.

Applications

Arduino Bluetooth PS/2 mouse painting application for Harmattan

Via: @GeneralAntilles

Editor: Ryan Abel

Twitter user @PlanasB posted a video of a Harmattan painting application which uses mouse input from an Arduino connected to an N950 via Bluetooth.

Development

Wayland running on N950/N9 on Nemo Mobile

Via: @GeneralAntilles

Editor: Ryan Abel

Robin Burchell posted a picture of Wayland running on Nemo Mobile on an N950: I spent a weekend working on Stskeeps' old prototype (with his help) and have successfully replicated it to have Wayland working on N950 (on top of Nemo). Much much thanks is due to him for his patience while working with me and for all of his help and support.

Populating another blade for maemo.org

Editor: Ryan Abel

One of the topics that came up in the last council meeting was regarding funds to populate another blade in the maemo.org server. Currently 2 of the 4 dual-socket blades are populated with a single CPU. The plan is to add a CPU and RAM to a third blade. The existing servers are running at capacity keeping most of maemo.org's services operational, the third CPU would give some room to play around with and keep services running more optimally during periods of peak demand. The current cost is estimated at about €1000. The Hildon Foundation has around $4000 in its coffers.

As the Hildon Foundation's PayPal donations are not currently functioning, Joerg Reisenweber (a council member and one of the primary drivers keeping maemo.org operational) has volunteering his personal PayPal account to accept donations for maemo.org infrastructure (or just staff tips!). Jolla expands the 100€ package to all EU countries, Switzerland and Norway

Via: @GeneralAntilles

Editor: Ryan Abel

The first round of pre-order expansions for the €100 package for the Jolla phone have hit, with the whole of the EU, Switzerland, and Norway now being able to order it. All countries can (and should!) register the 0€ package to indicate demand for YOUR country. We respond to feedback! If you'd like your country to be in the launch list, be sure to pre-order (and convince your friends to, too).
