Technical information on Harmattan browser

Via: @Jaffa2

Editor: Andrew Flegg

Nokia have published a large amount of information on "Nokia Browser 8.5", the name - it seems - for the WebKit-based browser shipped as standard on Harmattan.

The information includes user agents, capabilities and how to specify the icons which appear in the launcher when a user presses "Add to apps":

Nokia Browser 8.5 is the first Nokia browser available for the Linux-based MeeGo platform. It represents a major update and significant departure from prior Nokia browsers. Based on an updated WebKit2-based rendering engine, Browser 8.5 achieves a high level of support for HTML5, CSS3, and other important web standards such as geolocation and browser-based storage. Browser 8.5 features a clean, uncluttered interface that facilitates deployment of cross-browser web-based applications alongside native applications within the Nokia N9's home screen.

Developer outreach blog from N9 and N950 developer offering team

Via: @Jaffa2

Editor: Andrew Flegg

As our front page story showed, Nokia's MeeGo team have launched a blog to better communicate with N9/N950 developers. The blog will share information straight from the source and bridges the gap between the MeeGo Developer Offering team and the developer community itself. This is a multi-author blog by the team that is involved with the daily work of creating and improving the developer offering for the Nokia N9 device.

The most important task of the blog is to announce updates to tools, documentation and device images. But this blog will be more than just a glorified news ticker. In future posts we plan to highlight individual development tools, device features (and the corresponding programming interfaces), best practices and such. We may also invite guest authors to cover topics that particularly interest them and you.

First "real" Qt app available for Android, MeeGo and Symbian (no Maemo?)

Via: @Jaffa2

Tam Hanna has quoted a press release talking about the first useful application available across three different Qt platforms: Nokia’s Qt platform is available for Android, MeeGo and Symbian. So far, quite a few apps were released for Symbian and MeeGo – but none was available which spanned all three mobile platforms. This has now changed, with a free proof of concept app being released.

Cordia HD, a port of Maemo's Hildon Desktop to a Mer base, has had its first alpha release earlier today. In the short annoncement, Tomasz Sterna said: It is my pleasure to present you the first Mer-based alpha release of Cordia HD. Get it [...] and tell how do you like it.
